Unusual, very unusual ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿฆ  The only thing that’s more unusual than the name Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 15 (or APP15, please) is the outbreaks that took place in 2021 in the upper Midwest. The strange thing about this is its rarity in the US, the uncommon high mortality of this strain, and the lateral transmission between systems within a narrow geographic area.

     • The Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) funded the work of several teams of researchers to look into the shedding patterns of APP15 and its unique characteristics. In the end, researchers were able to detect APP in samplings, at lower detection rates, nine weeks after the reported outbreak – significantly longer than literature reports of seven days post infection.
