To raise pigs and interest ๐Ÿ†™

๐Ÿฉบ As scary and difficult as planning for the future may be, it is now more important than ever for the swine industry to be focusing on it... Why is that? Well, reasons abound, of course, but we’re here to talk about the number of families involved in agriculture – which is waning year after year. So it seems winning over the interest of younger generations for the swine industry is key, but it’s clearly a challenge.

     • Where do we start, then? One of the best ways to do it is through 4H and FFA programs, which allow youngsters to exhibit animals at fairs and events across the US. From a young age, children are exposed to the responsibilities of animal care, which sends them down the path to foster their interest in the swine industry (not to mention the opportunity to expand their knowledge on the subject and further their education).

๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿ”ฌ Understanding all the career opportunities available in the swine industry is also key. And there’s a whole lot of them: we not only need people to help raise and care for the animals, but also to design the buildings they live in, build nutrition programs, manufacture feed, manage finances, understand genetics, microbiology, meat science… the list goes on. At AB Vista, we understand the value of training future scientists by supporting typically 30+ Ph.Ds,  ongoing at any one time. Click here to learn more about us.
