Sustainable feed ♻️

Discussions on how to (better) use food waste and process co-products in pig feed and other livestock are all the rage in the US and beyond. It was also the topic of a recent conference in the US called ‘Catalyzing Feed Systems Sustainability by Engaging the Full Value Chain,’ – organized by the World Wildlife Fund and the Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER).

 

  • The conference brought together the full feed value chain to advance the discussion around 4 ‘critical components of sustainable feed systems’, which are circularity, innovation, regenerative agriculture, and responsible sourcing. 

 

  • The importance of dietary fiber and more research on the usage of by-products that improve the productivity and welfare of pigs were also brought up.
