Sentiments of concern… 📉

The Ag Economy Barometer (by Purdue University/CME Group) farmer sentiment index declined 5 points to a reading of 112 in September. The primary reason was the producers' weakened perception of current conditions – in other words,  concerns about input costs and  availability.

  • Also, producers believe that now is not a good time to make large investments in their farming operations. That’s due to increasing prices for farm machinery and new construction, not to mention rising interest rates – a growing concern among them.

  • Nevertheless, despite those negative perspectives, fewer producers plan to reduce their farm machinery purchases and their perspective on farmland values continues to soften when compared to previous surveys
