๐Ÿฅฉ What type of meat eater are you? Though this may sound like a quiz straight out a carnivore’s teen magazine, understanding the consumer should be a priority for the pork industry. With that in mind, the Reciprocal Meats Conference, hosted by the American Meat Science Association, featured a talk on a survey that categorized people into five meat-buying approaches!  

 

  • The types are: protein progressives; family-first food lovers; aging traditionalists; convenience chasers; wellness divas. To check out details about each one of them, click here.

 

๐Ÿ”Those are fun names and all… But what are we, producers of pork, meant to take away from the study, exactly?

 

  • First, that consumers are indeed interested in buying meat, despite recent trends.

 

  • Second, each type of consumer resonates with a different type of message. So if we want to reach them – of course we do – we must modulate our approaches accordingly. 

 

  • Third, getting people to buy more pork is about getting to know them better – that’s to say applying surveys is a damn smart move.
