Opening our hearts a little ♥️

🐷 That things aren’t looking pretty for us you already know: while the financial power of producers and packers has waned, prices at the retail level are higher than ever! It makes us all teary-eyed that consumers out there are willing and able to pay higher prices for pork, all right, but this money isn’t getting back to the folk it’s supposed to – those who produce and process the product (you).

🤔 So what is a pork producer to do in the face of continuing losses and pessimistic expectations? Well, for one, historical spreads between summer and fall prices may offer the best chance to establish a floor value, so keeping an eye out for that is a start. Also, making ourselves heard may be a way of placing the issue under the spotlight, which would hopefully make pork at the retail level more attractive to consumers and thus, allow more products to move and provide some relief on the production end.
