Did you know that more than four in ten Americans have high blood pressure, and that the leading causes of death in the country are heart disease and stroke? Well, with the objective of reducing such diet-related diseases and ending hunger by 2030, President Biden announced a package: the National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

  • It aims to provide free school meals for all students, expand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), integrate front-of-package nutrition labels, and implement a Medicare test of “food as medicine”.
  • The package was released ahead of the White House Hunger conference (read more about it here).

According to the President, the pillars of the national strategy will be improving food access and affordability, integrating nutrition and health, empowering all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices, and supporting physical activities. However, the White House alone can’t solve the situation and he’s called upon the private sector to also implement the pillars to create a healthier community.
