Modernization equals solution 🧾

Is that so? Well, according to some Agricultural groups and House legislators, it is! And they’re urging the approval of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.

  • Now what's that? Simply enough, it’s a House-approved bill for immigrant agricultural workers in the U.S. to earn legal status through continued agricultural employment and contribution to the American agricultural economy.
  • And how’s that a salvation? It gives flexibility to employers and critical protection to workers, so it ends up ensuring food security. So we’re talking about a solution for a growing crisis and certainty for producers and workers – at a time when those are running short.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have shown that national security is all about feeding the country, which is under threat because of an ag labor crisis – says Chuck Conner, President and CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives.

The bill is intended to create a legal and dependable agriculture workforce, raise wages and reduce unemployment, says Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash.
