Low on sows ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿท

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Chinese hog production in 2023 is forecast to decline 2% after low hog and pork prices in 2022 forced many producers to reduce their sow inventories, even though some of them did rebound late in the year due to a recovery in hog prices.

     • Animal diseases, such as African Swine Fever (ASF), are expected to increase production costs for the sector, but that seems to have become limited as producers have adjusted production practices to manage outbreaks.

     • Pork demand and consumption in China are expected to increase too, but that means imports are set to rise by 4% year over year.
