๐Ÿ”ฌ Dr. Megan Niederwerder, Associate Director of the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) in Iowa, received a 4-year grant from the US federal government to study the susceptibility of soybean feed ingredients to contamination by the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.

     • It’s an established fact that soybeans and its products "stabilize" not only ASF, but other viruses as well due to their protein and/or moisture content.

๐Ÿฆ  The first part of the new study will involve trying to determine how long the ASF virus persists in both organic soybean meal and soybean oil cake, while the second one will focus on evaluating various methodologies for detecting the contamination in feed ingredients and assessing how governments and the industry might better monitor the spread of the virus in feed.
