Collective Effort

An effort funded by the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) that’s aimed at increasing swine disease prevention and preparedness is developing a methodology to communicate with project participants whenever a swine disease is occurring in the region near their sites. 

• The goal is to be able to quickly report a regional health status to producers, allowing them to take precautions to protect their herds.

Basically, this is the plan: swine health data is being captured and analyzed on a weekly basis from participating farms. Once that’s done, the distance between a site that has recently reported an outbreak and neighboring sites will be calculated weekly and regional incidence will be shared among participants in a timely fashion.
