Biting nails and hooves ๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ In 2020, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) Lineage 1C variant RFLP 1-4-4 emerged in Minnesota and quickly wreaked havoc across neighboring states, sticking to the Midwest. However, so far in 2023, the variant has rung alarm bells after being detected in four eastern states as well – which got everyone biting their nails (and hooves too).

     • States that have never reported an infection, but are close to the affected zones – like North Carolina – are worried about their risks too.

๐Ÿ‘€ Since the movement of animals, vehicles, and people between the Midwest and East is raising eyebrows about the spread of the PRRSV, diagnostic monitoring of animals before interstate crossings, appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and other reinforced biosecurity measures are advised.
