๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Know before you go, right? After African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected in the Caribbean in 2021, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) further increased efforts to protect the US swine herd from the transboundary disease (which the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) much appreciates!).

     • APHIS has performed actions at airports, with signs encouraging travelers not to bring prohibited pork products into the country along with social media advertisements warning about the dangers of animal diseases to travelers, as well as awareness campaigns to swine professionals, designed to provide information to commercial pork producers, veterinarians and pig owners (there’s even a website to house key ASF materials). Learn more about the initiatives here.
