On September 7, the Senate Finance Committee unanimously nominated Doug McKalip to serve as the chief agricultural trade negotiator at the US Trade Representative office. He has over 30 years of federal public experience – including several leadership positions at the Department of Agriculture and with the Domestic Policy Council – and the support of over 100 agricultural organizations.

  • His name has already come up here in a previous edition – you can check that out here.
  • Mr. McKalip, as the top US ag negotiator, will lead smart trade policies to promote an affordable and abundant food supply domestically and abroad with the aim of lowering costs for farmers, bursting through trade barriers, and distributing more American agricultural exports.
  • Mr. McKalip has also been called to address trade enforcement where needed, as a strong choice and top trade advocate for American agriculture.

USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom, USDEC president and CEO Krysta Harden, the US Dairy Export Council, and the National Milk Producers Federation are among the voices that have supported the nomination.
